(One Little) Trick and Lots of Treats

In the spirit of yesterday's entry, in which I told you what to read this Halloween, we will move right along to what to eat, watch, and wear. But remember: I am not the boss of you and there will be no follow-up exam.

First up: eating. Maybe you're having a fahncy Halloween cocktail party. Maybe you're having a costume blow-out. Maybe your second child got himself born dangerously close to Halloween and is having a themed first birthday party. Or maybe you're like me and enjoy looking at pictures of other people's food. Whatever your need, here's some Halloween party food ideas:

Goat Cheese Balls: Really easy. Just balls of goat cheese rolled in chives, paprika, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or red pepper. Serve at room temperature on a platter drizzled with olive oil and pepper.
Mini Chorizo-in-a-Blanket: Little chorizo baked inside dough and served with mustard and ketchup. These go first and fast, proof positive that everyone loves weiners.
Smoked Salmon: Flaked on a chilled platter with with onions, capers, and cream.
Black & Orange Salsa: Chopped red onion, orange bell pepper, and fresh jalapeño tossed with roasted corn, black beans, olive oil, lime juice, and garlic.
Gingerbread Bats: Well, gingerbread cookies. Shaped like bats. And, lastly....well....I apologize for this in advance:
Happy Halloweiner.

I am having an open house on Sunday for a fellow teacher who is retiring. I could have up to 50 people in the house and I am making these cheese balls. They really are impressive looking...you take wonderful photographs. Your blog is always a visual treat.
