Day 20: For Baby Isabel
This is a picture of the tiny, precious sweater and even tinier, impossibly precious slippers I purchased in anticipation of our new niece's arrival. As I prepared to wrap the gifts, I was distracted by a familiar, though infrequent, screeching emanating from somewhere near my ovaries, that sounded something like, "But maybe we SHOULD have another BAAAAAAAYBEEEEEEE!?!." (Worth noting: the screeching is nothing a quick trip to Chuck E. Cheese can't silence.)
So, in lieu of having another baby on which to place these shoes, I did the next best thing and photographed them obsessively before folding the tissue and tying the bow.
So, here's the next part.
I've been hemming and hawing around (but the typing version, which doesn't, but should, have it's own idiom) and fully intending to post for the past five days. I haven't. It's been a tough week. The whole story is not mine to tell, but this is the short version: after a difficult labor and emergency C-section, my sister-in-law gave birth on Wednesday to a baby girl, and due to some breathing problems and other issues, the baby has been in the NICU since. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law are still waiting on important consultations from a few pediatric specialists. And the waiting, as you can imagine, is hard.
In the midst of all the sadness and fear and heartbreak, we are all hoping against hopes for some good news. If you pray, I would ask for your prayers. If you don't, I would ask for your best wishes. Surely, surely neither could hurt. Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, in advance.
