Fear Me, Kathie Lee

I just watched Heather Armstrong on The Today Show explaining "mom blogs" to Kathie Lee Gifford, which resulted in Kathie Lee politely expressing her mixed emotions about the whole thing and general fear of computers and, I hate to say it, but I'm extremely proud to be doing something, anything, that frightens and confuses Kathie Lee Gifford.

This one's for you, K.L. You've been scaring and confusing me for years, girlfriend.

(Edited to add a link to the video.)

Ooh! I really want to watch that segment. I heart dooce. And you? So rockingly funny, my friend. I am with you on KL -- quizzically strange, that one.

BAHAHAHAHA proud to be part of the movement. LOL

I can't stand Kathie Lee. I used to watch the second half of the Today Show but not anymore. She is so annoying!

We could just get our own t.v. shows and tell everthing about our kids to the whole world.

Ack, I can't stand Kathy Lee. Can't. Stand. Her.
I stopped watching to 2nd half of the Today show since she started. What were they thinking?!?

Kathy lee is one pompous lady.

"I'm extremely proud to be doing something, anything, that frightens and confuses Kathie Lee Gifford..."

Oh that cracked me up.

But I have to tell you... I was once in the studio audience on "Regis and Kathie Lee." Funny... I hardly remember anything about it. (It was years ago)

I think you're referring to memory loss due to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Just a thought.

I suspect you do a lot of things, every single day, that would frighten and confuse Kathie Lee.

You've had the power all along, Dorothy. :)

She does not exist in Australia (thank goodness it would seem) but I too am proud to part of the movement!

Seriously??? OMG. I CANNOT believe I missed that.

I'm proud to be part of Kathie Lee's confusion.

Oh, this is fantastic! Inspired perspective, I'm totally with you. And since when is Kathy Lee allowed back on TV?

I just watched the video on the Today Show's website. I couldn't agree more. And I hate that she didn't let Heather finish her last point at the end!

K.L. makes me very twitchy.

I missed the Dooce segment. Crap!

(I think KL goes through life confused. Must be hard.)

You know, after watching it-I had the exact same feeling. God. Why did they bring that woman back to television? If memory serves, when she was on that other show, she NEVER shut up about her two kids. What's the difference between that and what Dooce does?

And for the record, I never watched that show, but I did listen to Howard Stern mock her for years.

Thank you for posting the link to the video, since I did miss it.

Cannot stand Kathie Lee. You would think she might have educated herself a bit better before the interview. And NBC could have hired someone a bit more tuned in to current culture.

I think Heather handled her very well.

standing still said...

Uggg. I'm speechless. What part of "this interview isn't about you, Kathie Lee" didn't she understand?

I really feel like shoving KL's face through a plate glass window after watching that segment. Better yet, I feel like watching Heather Armstrong smash KL's face through a plate glass window while all of we "questionable" blogger moms cheer her on.

I think Dooce rocked that interview. Kl is a twit and did not do her research (duh! what else is new?)
It reminded me of one of those sorority interviews where the initiate totally outclasses the interviewers.
Thank you for posting the link!

Here's to more scariness and confusion! Rock on!

I think I will make that my new life goal: Frightening Kathie Lee Gifford.

Oh, this made me giggle out loud.

I saw the Today show segment, as well. While I understand her fear of blogging about her kids, I was surprised to hear Kathie Lee say that. She used to talk constantly about Cody and Cassidy on LIVE! with Regis and Kathie Lee, and she currently has childhood photos of them up on her personal website right now.

This is exactly the way to think about it. I'm off to change my banner. "Scaring Kathie Lee Gifford since 2007."

MsPrufrock said...

I don't get the Dooce thing, but obviously I would be in her corner over that of the evil succubus KL. What is up with that face anyway? Pulled tighter than a snare drum. Gross.

LIghtKeeper said...

Thank you, Melanie! I've bee wondering who let KL back on TV?

(and to Kathie Lee, "Boo! ... Gotcha'!)

Mrs. G. said...

I'm not terribly concerned about mommy blogging, but I am deeply concerned about that dress. Gawd.

JCK said...

What exactly is fear of computers anyway? I wish she had had fear of plastic surgeons.

dkuroiwa said...

Gawd!! Can you imagine if she ever does understand the computer....she'd be writing more about her two kids and life with her hub (sex stuff, loss of hair, etc)? Yuck!!!
I'm with everyone else in saying, "what is the difference?" between what she has done for years on TV and what is going on in the blogging world?!?! Except if she started to blog we wouldn't have to see her face or listen to her condescending attitude...definitely would NOT blogroll her!!!

The Cheap Chick said...

Ugh. I LOATHE that woman. Did you watch when she had Cooper Lawrence on? It was AWFUL. She never stops talking to, oh-I-don't-know, let the guests talk? Let someone else share?

Why oh WHY did they hire her? And when did they let her off the cruise ship?

All Adither said...

Kathie Lee is a total narcissist. She was a horrible choice for NBC. And that makeup. Spatula much?

kimmomofeight said...

Indeed! She is (and always has been) somewhat terrifying.

I personally think that our kids will like to look back on what they did. We are not scrapbookers so this is a diary of life at our house.

There is something about KLG that makes me want to spray myself down with Lysol.

lapoflux said...

So - KL is scared of computers, but not of looking like she's made 85% of plastic?
What a dumb broad. As for the other one with the air quotation marks...?
Thanks for posting such an entertaining link!

Happy Mother's Day, Melanie! You rock.

I simply find it odd that Kathie Lee expresses such concern about mommy blogging. Kathie Lee????? Didn't she formerly blog with her MOUTH on a daily basis during her years on "Regis and Kathie Lee?" I thought the entire TV viewing world knew everything there was to know about her children before said children chased her down and gagged her.

Hafa Adai!

I was shocked to find Kathy Lee on the today show as well. I'm dying to watch the video but the videofeed is slow today. Not uncommon in my part of the world though.

I'm back to blogging and looking forward to seeing your pics and reading your awesome blog again!

Kathy said...

Hi, I just wandered into your blog while browsing and this post cracks me up! KL is ridiculous.

Mary Alice said...

I'm sorry I am still sitting around catching flies with my mouth agape at the amount of money Heather Armstrong's blog make's every month. That was featured on ABC news yesterday.

You're right. Kathie Lee was really weird in that. I haven't watched morning news shows in many years, so the whole thing seemed weird to me.
