Very Little Edie

Some of you might remember this Grey Gardens photo shoot in which I dressed my lovably batty little Ellie like lovably batty Little Edie. (Actually, some of you have still not rented Grey Gardens, and that is actually hurting my heart, right now, as we speak. Don't ask how, I just know these things.) These photos are now part of a Little Edie photo contest hosted by the very funny Jean (NYC literary agent by day, home improvement masochist by night) at Renovation Therapy who knows a thing or two about staunch women.

Go on over and check out all the truly inspired entries and vote for your favorite! (Be sure to enlarge the pics. Some of the details are not to be missed.)

In the mean time, get this movie into your Netflix queue ASAP before I hack in there and do it myself, missy!

I simply cannot get enough of that staunch little baby. Nothing like making them bats right off the bat, eh? :)

You know that I totally voted for yours. Not just because it is the best, which of course it is, but also because of the whole Secret Girlfriend #1 thing. XOXOXO

I did rent it after your original post. It haunts me to this day. What is it about those two kooks that just sticks with you? My favorite scene is when she does the flag dance for David. Then she runs upstairs to her screaming mother. Good stuff!

Wonderful! Truly glad I've stumbled onto this blog. So clean, so smart - only the second blogger I've enjoyed without personally knowing the writer. Thank you... I"ll watch the movie.

Hmph. Aren't you the bossy-pants? J/K (oooo, childhood note-writing flashback), I plan on seeing the remake with Drew Barrymore. Is that one out yet?

You got me...I had put my Netflix membership on hold during the great painting adventure '08 and I just reactivated today-GG is at the top o' the queue.

It looks like Mis Ellie is beating the competition by a 2 to 1 margin!

I just watched Grey Gardens last night. Now I have to watch it several more times because there is so much to think about. It left me with a lot of questions and I'll probably spend several hours googling the Beales to get more info. I hope your heart hurts a little less knowing that one of your readers watched the movie.

I too am a "clock watcher" and your description of how you frame time in your mind to help it pass was perfectly written. Wonderful reminder to enjoy observing kids simply being kids.

So I don't sound self-righteous, I almost hyperventilate when my husband leaves town...

Beautiful photos. Even the toys are beautiful.

Melanie.

My daughter just spent the last hour perusing your blog, which she found through Derfwad Manor. "Why isn't she on your blogroll?" Pester, pester. I don't know. I'm almost 50. Early Alzheimer's.

"She's funny." I know. "Did you know she did a post on Grey Gardens?" !! I LOVE Grey Gardens Have made my best friends watch it. I own the DVD. And the soundtrack from the musical. I drop "Edie-isms", even though nobody knows what I'm talking about. "Jerry Likes My Corn" makes me cry. I love your daughter as Little Edie. Wonderful photo.

Meredith added you to my bloglist. Thank you, Meredith. :) Now I must go see if Playlist has a song from the musical ...
